Summary. In May 2003, a watching brief took place on eight small test-pits, dug by soil engineers as part of a series of ground-investigation works in advance of redevelopment at Colchester Garrison. Two pits of indeterminate but possibly early date were noted in test-pits on farmland to the north of Earlswood Way. Both features lie within an area known to contain a late Iron Age/Roman field system and trackways.
