Summary. Located in the historic core of Hatfield Heath, this site was formerly the car park and beer garden of the Stag Inn. Three evaluation trenches 35m in length were positioned within the footprints of two proposed new buildings and their access road. There were five archaeological features: a late medieval pit, and modern ditches and pits. The modern features are probably associated with the modern housing development to the north of the site, and the late medieval pit provides only slight evidence for late medieval activity here. A modern gully may be a former plot boundary.
