Summary. Archaeological investigation was carried out at St Leonard’s Church, Lexden Road, Colchester in advance of the construction of a new kitchen, to be sited behind the main church as an extension to the existing 2009 extension. Initial investigations in November 2017 (Phase 1) consisting of a test pit and a limited strip, map and record exercise revealed a modern foundation associated with the demolished choir vestry, and a modern pit. A subsequent phase of archaeological investigation (Phase 2) was undertaken during the construction stage of the project. This confirmed that the demolished vestry and the groundworks associated with the 2009 extension had removed any archaeological potential from the site.
