Summary. Archaeological monitoring was carried out at Portal Precinct, Sir Issacs Walk, Colchester during groundworks associated with the conversion of existing buildings. The development site is located within the southeastern corner of the Roman fortress and Insula 35 of the Roman walled town. Most of the groundworks occurred through 1.4m of modern paving/make-up, post-medieval dark earth and medieval/postmedieval accumulation. No significant Roman archaeological remains were exposed.
