Summary. Archaeological evaluation (one trial-trench and two test-pits) was carried out at the White Hart Hotel, 1 High Street, West Mersea, Essex in advance of refurbishments and extensions to the existing building. The White Hart possibly dates from the 18th century and is located in an area rich in Roman and medieval remains. Evaluation revealed post-medieval and modern layers sealing natural sands. A post-medieval brick-lined soakaway/cesspit, a 19th-century brick wall foundation and an undated pit were excavated and are likely to be associated with the existing building.
