Summary. Archaeological monitoring was carried out at Cap Pilar Cottage, Wivenhoe, Essex during groundworks for a two-storey extension. The site lies within the historic core of Wivenhoe, near to the 14th-century church of St Mary the Virgin. Despite being located in an archaeologically-sensitive area, however, no significant archaeological remains were encountered.
