Summary. A programme of historic building recording was carried out by Colchester Archaeological Trust at land adjacent to Domus, Great Horkesley, Essex in September 2019. The building is a nine-bay, single-storey, timber-framed structure located on the east side of “The Causeway”, a historic road between Great Horkesley and Colchester. Although on the same footprint as a building shown on the 1839 tithe map, the modern machine-cut timber, rudimentary jointing and regular brickwork of the building’s plinth all suggest it was rebuilt in the early 20th century out of modern materials.
