Summary. Archaeological monitoring was carried out during the excavation of a service trench during emergency repairs to the electricity supply. The site lies adjacent to Balkerne Gate, part of Colchester’s Roman town wall and a Historic England Grade I listed building. Two features were observed. Neither produced any artefactual evidence but both were cut through modern and post-medieval layers, suggesting they are of limited archaeological significance.
