Summary. An archaeological evaluation (six trial-trenches) was carried out on land north of Lower Farm Barn, The Causeway, Hitcham, Suffolk in advance of the construction of six new dwellings. Located within an agricultural field, the development site is located close to sites of Roman, medieval and post-medieval significance. Evaluation revealed four features (two ditches, a gully and pit) of medieval date which contained pottery dating from the 11th to 13th century, and another two undated pits that are likely to be associated with this activity. A post-medieval pit/ditch, modern ditch and pit/ditch, and undated pit/ditch and pit were also present.
