Summary. Archaeological monitoring was carried out at 16 St Clare Road, Colchester, Essex, during groundworks for extensions to the front and rear of the property. The site is located within Lexden Cemetery, an area of known Late Iron Age and Roman burials. Excavation of a foundation trench revealed a single urned cremation burial. Buried in flask dating to the Late Iron Age/early Roman period were the remains of possibly two individuals, one adult and one young child.
