Summary. An archaeological evaluation (one trial-trench) was carried out at ‘Hewthorn’, Wivenhoe, Essex in advance of the construction of a detached dwelling and garage. Located at the southeastern edge of Wivenhoe, immediately adjacent to the railway line connecting Wivenhoe to Alresford, the evaluation revealed a modern pit and layers of modern made-ground probably related to nearby out-buildings and garages.
