Summary. An archaeological evaluation (13 trial-trenches) was carried out on land north of 48 Woodrolfe Road, Tollesbury, Essex in advance of the construction of a new residential development. The site lies to the north of Woodrolfe Road, a medieval road linking Tollesbury with Woodrolfe Creek and the nearby marshes, and southwest of a series of Late Iron Age or Roman ‘red hills’. Excavations at the site revealed a medieval ditch which was likely the product of agricultural activity, and which also produced a small amount of Late Iron Age and Roman pottery. A modern posthole, an undatable pit and a natural feature were also uncovered
