Summary. An archaeological evaluation (one trial-trench) was carried out on land to the west of 18 St John's Road, Writtle, Essex in advance of the construction of a new dwelling. Located within the historic settlement of Writtle, which has its origins in the late AngloSaxon period, evaluation revealed one modern pit and four sherds of medieval pottery.
